I finally had the chance to check out the Washington Carver Exhibit at the Missouri History Museum.
This very same exhibit was in Chicago at the Field Museum last summer. I really wanted to see this exhibit, but I missed it. I was either in Chicago before the exhibit or after it had left. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I noticed a banner announcing the exhibits arrival while I was enjoying one of the last Twilight Tuesdays concerts of the 2008 season. The George Washington Carver exhibit was soon coming to my town! How lucky I felt.
And lucky I was to see and experience this exhibit. The graphics, artifacts, and pictures all come together to narrate the biography of a great American Innovator and Missouri Native. I did not opt for the audio tour, but you can. The displays and few audio are perfectly support one another. And the exhibit is not too long, so you shouldn't get too tired. Carver's story is amazing and worth sharing with others. Check out my thoughts about the exhibit here.
From slave, to orphan, to school boy working a number of jobs to college professor and Green Innovator.
You only have a few more weeks to see this exhibit for yourself. After This Monday, March 1, 2009, the exhibit is traveling. It will be in Dallas, Texas, next.

Thursday, January 8, The Missouri History Museum presented another fabulous installment of the Community Cinema Series. This time is was a screening of the documentary of Tulia, Texas. The heart-wrenching account of a town dealing with a drug crisis and a possible tainted drug enforcement officer dropped our jaws. The Panel Discussion following the screening was equally captivating. Panelists include Redditt Hudson of the ACLU and Linda Trest, reporter with the Gasconade County Republican.
