Art St. Louis offers great entertainment and culture outings

When I first moved the St. Louis, I visited Washington Avenue one evening and discovered “Nightclub Mecca”. Evenings from Thursday through Sunday, I could find a dance club to cater to any of my dancing fancies – hip hop, R&B, Techno, House, Alternative, Dance, and there was even a great chill spot for sipping martinis. However, continue strolling down Wash Ave, past the America’s Center and you’ll discover a true cultural gem. At 555, Suite #150 you will find Art St. Louis Art Gallery. Continue reading >>.

St. Louis Fashion Week rocked the house!

I attended my very first ever Fashion Show at St. Louis Fashion Week on Saturday, October 17, 2009. It was fabulous. The highlight of the day was when an STLFW attendee walked up to me and asked if I was Afrobella – the super-fabulous, highly technorati-ranked and multi-winner of numerous Black Weblog awards for fashion and beauty – of Chicago, Illinois. “No.” I responded; but I was much flattered for the comparison, and I can see some of the similarities – bright smile, big wild hair, though I personally thinks she is the Fete’s own, D. Craven’s long-lost sister -What do you all think?
But I digress. It was amazing and I am completely sold on STLFW. If you missed it, then check out my attempt to channel my inner AfroBella in my full recap of the event, which includes more pictures: St. Louis Fashion Week Rocked the House!

Got to hob-nob with Atillio D'Agostino, editor of ALIVE Magazine and Executive Producer of STLFW.

I met St. Louis' own, my cousin - Murphy Lee - at the STLFW After-party. Not really my cousin, but we do share the same last name.

Reign Men's Fashion.

Special shout out to the Urbanistas who were in the house at STLFW and Pamela Raymond – St. Louis Business Commentary Examiner and Principal of The Raymond Experience.

Recap of Weekend Events of October 3.

The weather was cool, partly sunny, and there was a light breeze. It was autumn and it was beautiful – the perfect weekend to share experience all of the delicious tastes, sights, and sounds of Missouri.
The Taste of St. Louis and the St. Louis Wine Fest provided so many delicious treats for the palatte, but I was taken away by the Farm-themed events this weekend. It was a Farm-tastic weekend.

The 18th Annual “Best of Missouri Market” at the Missouri Botanical Garden featured several vendors – of food, wine, and handicrafts – all made by local vendors. There were over 100 Missouri food producers offering fresh produce, canned goods, delicious baked goods, and candy makers.

Let them have wine! Recap of Winery trips

Go directly to June 2009 Events.

On Saturday, May 30th I did a wine crawl, visiting several wineries of Ste. Genevienve, Missouri. Two local young professional organizations arranged bus trips down to the area that day. So, I decided to do both.

Read all about my great time here.

Hanging out with NetIP (Network of Indian Professionals) of St. Louis at Cave Vineyard.

What did you do Friday night? I had a great time.

The Night began with a stop by this week’s installment of Stress Free Fridays at St. Louis Jazz Café on St. Charles Ave. For five years, Mark Anthony Jones has been greeting St. Louis Professionals at the door of several local establishments encouraging them to relax and begin the weekend.

Invitation Only: Receptions at the History Museum and Big Brothers Big Sisters

Go directly to the April 2009 Events or May 2009 Events Calendar.

I must admit, I really enjoy being out and about. Last night, Wednesday, April 22, 2009, was a perfect example as to why.

The Missouri History Museum held an Opening Reception for the Mary Lee Bendolph, Gee’s Bend Quilts, and Beyond Exhibition. Quilters and members of the Gee’s Bend, Alabama community were in attendance as the press and Museum Members were treated to a view of the exhibit and a chance to meet the quilters and the curator of the exhibit. The exhibit is open until September 13 and I was amazed at the color and work of the quilts on displays.

I also recommend checking out the supplemental activities for this exhibition. Now until Sunday, April 26, 2009, Quilters, by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, is a dynamic performance at the Missouri History Museum.

Here are some pictures from the Reception.

We were also treated to a performance. The ladies sang some spirituals.

Also that evening, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Missouri hosted a special thank you reception for ‘Bigs’ (a big brother or sister mentor). I’ve been a volunteer with BBBS for nearly 6 years. If you would like to make a difference in a child’s life, then BBBS would love to help you make a new friend. Sign up today. Here are photos from the reception hosted at the BBBS Offices at the corner of Grand Ave and Olive Blvd.

2009 Go! St. Louis Marathon

Go directly to the April 2009 Events Calendar.

The 2009 Go! St. Louis Marathon and Half-Marathon was a participation success despite the wet, soggy weather. Here's a photo essay of the day.

Pre-race

The Starting Line and Early Leaders

Mid-race, before the pain kicked in. I wasn't last and I actually passed 5 people during the race.

The Finish

I completed 9 and quarter miles. I was hurting bad and had a get a ride from sag. But I walked farther than the last time I participated in 2007.

Get ready for the Ten Toe Express!
