The Autohaus BMW Drive event to benefit the Susan Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research was great. I drive some fancy sport car, the Z something. It was quite fetching, but cramped and uncomfortable. I'm sure I looked great, but that's nothing. It was a great event! and the turnout was great!. They had about 10 cars for people to drive and lots of free food, snacks, and little giveaway trinkets.
And I was really impressed and pleased that approximately one-third to one-half of the participants were African-American. It was a great event that drew a diverse crowd. If you missed it, too bad, try to come out and do it next year.
Jazz Fest
This year’s Jazz Fest was a blast like it is every year, even with the reduction from 2 days to 1 and the constant threat by Mother Nature to rain the festival out. While the organizers did shut down for about an hour I understand, the artist and patrons did not stay away because of the foul weather. Indeed there were record crowds I am sure in the audience when Paco Sanchez and George Benson played. I missed the first half of the festivities; however, if the last group of performers is any indication of the energy that was given by Sanchez and Benson, I am sure it was as dynamic and crowd pleasing as the last. Sanchez had us all moving our hips to the Latin beat and Benson killed on that Base! Man, that brotha can still sing like he was 20. I see why my momma said “he could put his shoes under her bed any day.” He was fantastic and played Broadway for about 5 minutes. Bravo! BTW, one has to wonder how much they spent this year – the line up was top notch all the way through.
I spotted Tony Scott of Magic 104.9 wandering around the grounds shaking hands. Inside the Enterprise tent was, as always; fantastic with an extra special kudos to the catering company they used this year. These men and women were fantastic, professional, and very nice. Even with wet grass, the men came out in style and the women were put together. In a crisp tan Hawaiian shirt I spotted Mr. Buford and his wife Susan in black, Mike McMillan, Frankie Freeman and Ida Woolfolk, Valerie Patton and the ladies of POW, Tracy and Stacy Clay as cute as they can be, Paula Knight – girl in red pumps and black Koolots looking too put together. I did not get out of there till 10pm and the party was still going strong. The organizers packed a lot of punch into that one night. Well done.
BMW – Drive for the Cure
Not even a freak thunderstorm in Clayton kept my daughter Dominique, Danielle, Antwan and I from attending the Autohaus of Clayton – BMW Susan B. Kohlman Drive for the Cure this Saturday afternoon. There was music (Teddy was playing) and food along with some fantastic vehicles to drive. I choose the BMW SAV (luxury name for SUV). Drove smooth, nice seats and Dominique and I played with the sun roof! WEEEE!!! We made $15 for breast cancer research and got to drive a $40,000 car.
